Paco News-Fight against wildlife crime: AFRICA-TWIX platform is operational
The information exchange platform AFRICA-TWIX is operational since 15 March 2016. It has more than 70 operators responsible for the implementation of the CITES in four pilot countries covered by the project (Cameroon, Congo, Gabon and the Democratic Republic of Congo).
AFRICA-TWIX is a new platform established to promote collaboration among enforcement agencies of the law engaged in the fight against illegal wildlife trade, and criminal activities related to it. Based on the experience of the information exchange system EU-TWIX used by the personnel responsible for law enforcement across Europe for over a decade, managing AFRICA-TWIX , such as EU-TWIX is provided by TRAFFIC on behalf of law enforcement agencies and governments.
The relevant project is implemented in partnership with the Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC). Launched on September 1st 2015, the project is financed by the German cooperation within the framework of the Polifund program, Implemented by GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the German Federal Ministry of Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB).
