“Cuso International” joins the Congo Basin Forest Partnership 

Ottawa (Canada), 2 October 2013 – “Cuso International” has officially joined the Congo Basin Forests Partnership (CBFP)  to promote sustainable management of Central Africa’s forest ecosystems, and to work with the CBFP partners’ to support the implementation of the COMIFAC Convergence Plan.  

By becoming a member of CBFP, Cuso International also seeks to strengthen its influence in the Congo Basin, in collaboration with its local and international partners.

Cuso International has a unique approach focused on capacity building through posting skilled volunteers, recruited primarily from Canada and the United States. Cuso International places professionals with a diverse range of backgrounds who are deployed to fill a variety of medium and long-term positions. In Central Africa, Cuso International has signed formal partnerships with regional bodies such as the African Model Forest Network (AMFN) and the World Wildlife Fund (WWF- CARPO) with which it is jointly implementing  a program of activities geared at developing strategies for poverty reduction, capacity building, crafting financing mechanisms and biodiversity conservation. In partnership with the AMFN, Cuso International is currently implementing a flagship agro-forestry climate resilience project based on intensive green agriculture, with a strong business development and value added research component termed B -Adapt ( with B standing for Business).

Cuso International programming in Central Africa focuses on the natural resources sector. Its programs rely on its development objectives, particularly livelihood security and participatory governance, alongside two cross-cutting development objectives; gender and development, and climate change. These objectives fit neatly with the strategic development axes of the COMIFAC Convergence plan, especially axes No.4: Conservation of Biological Diversity, No.5: sustainable use of forest resources, No.6: Development of alternative activities and poverty reduction, No.7: capacity building/ stakeholder involvement / information / training, No.9: Development funding mechanisms and No.10: Regional cooperation and Partnership.

Ottawa (Canada), 2 octobre 2013 – «Cuso International» a confirmé officiellement son adhésion au Partenariat des Forêts du Bassin du Congo (PFBC) en vue de promouvoir la gestion durable des écosystèmes forestiers d’Afrique Centrale, de travailler avec les partenaires du PFBC et d’appuyer la mise en œuvre du Plan de Convergence de la COMIFAC.

En devenant membre du PFBC, «Cuso International»   espère également augmenter son impact dans le Bassin du Congo, ceci en collaboration avec ses partenaires locaux et internationaux.

Cuso International possède une approche unique visant principalement le renforcement de capacités par le biais de l’affectation de coopérants volontaires professionnels. Il recrute ses volontaires principalement au Canada et également aux États-Unis. Cuso International dispose ainsi d’un vaste éventail de professionnels à affecter pour des mandats variés de moyen et long terme. En Afrique Centrale, Cuso International a conclu des partenariats formels avec des organismes régionaux tels le Réseau Africain des Forêts Modèles (RAFM) et le World Wildlife Fund (WWF-CARPO) et réalise avec eux un programme d’activités axés sur le développement des activités alternatives et la réduction de la pauvreté, le renforcement de capacités, le développement des mécanismes de financement et la conservation de la diversité biologique. Actuellement, en partenariat avec le RAFM, Cuso International met en oeuvre un projet-phare agro forestier de résilience climatique basé sur l’agriculture intensive verte, avec une forte composante de développement entrepreneurial et de recherche de valeur ajoutée nommé B-Adapt (le B étant pour Business).

La programmation de Cuso International en Afrique Centrale est centrée sur le secteur des ressources naturelles. La programmation de Cuso International est basée sur ses objectifs de développement liés particulièrement à la sécurité des moyens de subsistance et à la participation et gouvernance, avec également deux objectifs de développement transversaux que sont le genre et le développement, et le changement climatique. Ces objectifs s’alignent ainsi sur les axes de développement stratégique du Plan de convergence de la COMIFAC, particulièrement les axes No.4 Conservation de la diversité biologique, No.5 Valorisation durable des ressources forestières, No.6 Développement des activités alternatives et réduction de la pauvreté, No.7 Renforcement des capacités / participation des acteurs / information / formation, No.9 Développement des mécanismes de financement et No.10 Coopération régionale et partenariat.
