voaafrique-French NGO to manage largest and endangered nature reserve in Niger
Niger has appointed the French NGO Noé to manage its largest natural reserve, Termit and Tin Toumma, which is home to several protected and endangered plant and animal species, the Nigerien Ministry of Environment announced on Tuesday.
A "delegated management" convention was signed Monday in Niamey by Almoustapha Garba, Niger’s Minister of Environment, and Valérie Collin, Secretary General of the NGO Noé.
The convention confers a 20-year mandate on Noé for the management of the Termit and Tin Toumma reserve, which is threatened by poaching, deforestation and oil exploitation.
