Precious Woods - Welcome to our new member!
The Congo Basin Partnership has a long tradition in cooperation with partners and associations representing the private sector, and we are very glad to welcome today the first corporate member within our partnership.
Precious Woods is a world leader in sustainable management of tropical forests. Based in Switzerland, the company employs some 2 300 people worldwide and has subsidiaries in Brazil, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Gabon, Holland and Switzerland. In Brazil and Gabon the company manages existing tropical forest according to the guidelines of the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) in a sustainable and low-impact manner, thereby assuring its long-term preservation. The timber is processed locally in Precious Woods' own sawmills.
Precious Woods pursues an integrative approach to sustainable forestry: processing of timber in local sawmills, reforestation of abandoned pastureland, the use of waste wood to produce energy, and the registration and sale of cabron emission rights form part and parcel of its forestry strategy.
