The natural resources of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) offer a broad range of edible insect species, which represent a valuable food source for the local population. Our first aim here is to study the advantages and disadvantages of consuming edible insects. Secondly, we will endeavor to examine the history of this practice in the DRC, by reviewing the different species consumed, as well as harvesting methods and cuisine. Next we will look at the current situation, by reviewing the potential benefits and drawbacks of insect rearing. Finally, we will try to anticipate the measures to be implemented in order to build optimal prospects for the practice in the DRC.
