The validation workshop on the Roadmap for more effective participatory forestry in Central Africa, organized by the Ministry of Forest Economy of the Congo, with the technical support of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and Nature +, took place from 30 to 31 May 2018 in the conference room of the Ministry of Forest Economy, in Brazzaville, Congo.
The main objective of the workshop was to review and validate the Roadmap for more effective participatory forestry in Central Africa, named ''the Brazzaville roadmap''.
In attendance were close to 50 participants representing Forestry Ministries of the following COMIFAC countries: Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Central African Republic and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as well as ECCAS, FAO, the World Bank, Nature+, the International Technical Tropical Timber Association (ATIBT), ClientEarth, FERN, the African Model Forest Network, Rainforest Alliance, Forest Peoples Programme, WWF DRC, the FSC, CEFDHAC and its networks, notably REPALEAC and the RIFFEAC, and civil society organizations listed below: Center for Environment and Development (CED), the Local Development Initiatives Support Office (SAILD), Home of the Pygmy Child and Woman (MEFP), Junior Legal Services Office (CJJ), the Congolese Observatory for Human Rights (OHCHR), Center for Environmental Information and Sustainable Development (CIEDD), Organization for the development and human rights in the Congo (ODDHC), Meeting for Peace and Human Rights (RPDH) and Congolese Governance and Human Rights Forum (FGDH).
The workshop opening ceremony was marked by two speeches which were delivered respectively by the representative of FAO in the Congo and the Minister of Forest Economy.
