The Global Guide for identifying HCVs was published in October 2013. The French version is now available for download and is provided by the High Conservation Value Resource Network.

The HCV Resource Network is currently translating this important document into four other languages:  Bahasa, Chinese, Portuguese and Russian.

This document builds on a series of guides and existing guidelines for High Conservation Value ​​(HCV) auditors and practitioners. In recent years, generic HCV definitions have been amended and the HCV methodology has been adopted by increasing numbers of diverse initiatives, creating the need to assess and update existing guides. This document does not seek to completely substitute existing resources, but rather to broaden the scope of application of HCVs and provide support based on practical field experience.

At the same time, in recent years, potential inconsistencies in the implementation of the concept across various sectors or geographical locations have become a growing concern of the HCV Resource Network (HCVRN) and HCV practitioners and other stakeholders. The identification of values present ​​within a landscape or a specific management unit must be based on a common understanding of the HCV definitions outlined in this document. It specifically targets HCV assessors, particularly in the absence of national interpretations in order to guide the interpretation of the HCV definitions and orient their implementation, and hence harmonize the use of the concept.
