COMIFAC National Coordination Units hold consultations in Brazzaville
Brazzaville, Republic of Congo, 04-06 June 2019
The 9th consultation workshop of the COMIFAC National Coordination Units took place at the Mikhael’s Hotel.
The meeting’s overall objective was to strengthen the capacities and performance of the COMIFAC National Coordination Units in the discharge of their mission in line with national, regional and international agendas in the forestry and environmental sectors.
Close to thirty people took part in the meeting including representatives of the COMIFAC Executive Secretariat, National Coordinators and their deputies from nine COMIFAC countries namely Cameroon, Congo, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sao Tome and Principe and Chad as well as Representatives of Technical and Financial Partners.
The opening ceremony was marked by three speeches delivered by the Director of the GIZ “Sustainable management of Congo Basin Forests” Program, the COMIFAC Executive Secretary and the Legal Counsel and Acting Chief of Staff of the Ministry of the Forest Economy of the Republic of Congo.
To Martial Nkolo, the Director of the GIZ “Sustainable “Sustainable management of Congo Basin Forests” Program, the COMIFAC National Coordination Units must play a key role in resource mobilization and data production. “The latter ought to be regarded as the national standard for producing COMIFAC data and mobilizing egalitarian contributions from the States which are currently irregular and are barely enough to cover 50% of COMIFAC’s operating costs”.
Raymond NDOMBA NGOYE, the COMIFAC Executive Secretary welcomed the holding of the meeting: “This meeting is highly important for COMIFAC. It will enable us to guide the missions of the CNC in coming years, place them at the heart of COMIFAC’s national processes, through better institutional entrenchment and more in-depth reflection on sustainably strengthening their organizational, structural and technical capacities.” Continuing his remarks, he thanked the Congolese authorities as well as technical and financial partners, especially GIZ through GIZ’s “Regional Project to Support COMIFAC” who had made the meeting possible.
