CIFOR-COBAM: Adaptation Policies and synergies with REDD + in the Democratic Republic of Congo: Background, Stakes and Prospects
Please download the document: Politiques d’adaptation et synergies avec la Redd+ en République démocratique du Congo: Contexte, enjeux et perspectives
The Congo Basin countries are poor and vulnerable. The general consensus is that they will bear the brunt of the negative effects of climate change. Combating the phenomenon is now a key concern on their political agendas. Processes have been initiated in these countries, at various levels and paces to address these climate dynamics through mitigation and adaptation. However, considering and simultaneously implementing mitigation and adaptation measures alone is no longer enough. In a context of conflict, poverty and lack of resources to support the process, there is a need to go even further and approach mitigation and adaptation from a synergistic standpoint. Beyond the principle posited by this analysis, the reflection will help reconstruct possible options for climate change adaptation and provide an outline of how to implement them in synergy with REDD +. It serves as a springboard for further analysis based on national documents, programs and projects aimed at ensuring ex situ integration and coherence of climate policies within development policies, and in situ within climate policies proper.
