PACO NEWS : PPI: 34 new projects for enhancing the contribution of the African civil society to the conservation of nature
The 5th phase of the Small-Scale Initiatives Program (PPI.5) launched in late 2016 has now completed its process for selecting the civil society projects supported by the program. A 1st restricted call for proposals had made it possible to select, in June 2017, 20 "average grant" projects (70 K€ on average over 2 years) promoted by 24 PPI partner NGOs and networks for several phases, for a total amount of around € 1,140,000 granted.
The 2nd competition of this 5th phase resulted in the selection of 14 "small grant" projects (30 K€ on average over 18 months) for a total amount of around € 450,000 granted. These 34 projects will be implemented in 11 Central and West African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Cote d’Ivoire, Gabon, Ghana, Niger, DRC, Sao Tome & Principe, Togo).
For this 5th phase, stronger emphasis is placed on territorial governance in connection with biodiversity conservation, land use planning and citizen engagement around the issue. In one decade of operation, about 185 African NGOs have benefited from PPI support. thomas.bacha@iucn.org / arsene.sanon@iucn.org
