CES Brazzaville offers new multidisciplinary training programme
Training centre on the social aspects of sustainable forest management in the Congo Basin - Call for student applications - Brazzaville
The Centre of Social Excellence (CSE), an initiative of Tropical Forest Trust (TFT), will offer from May 2009 a unique one-year multidisciplinary training programme that focuses on building the capacity of students and/or young professionals on the social aspects of sustainable forest management. The course includes a broad range of topics such as anthropology, management and communication, international conventions related to sustainable forest management, forest certification, and methods for social mapping. The CSE proposes an innovative approach to sustainable forest management by incorporating techniques that take into account the views and rights of forest people.
The theoretical training at the CES in Brazzaville lasts 3 months and is followed by 8 months of training with a forest company in one of the Congo Basin countries. The CSE provides a solid theoretical basis and long periods of practical field-based training. The first group of students will begin in May 2009 and the second in January 2010.
All students or graduates from 6 central African countries (Cameroon, Congo-Brazzaville, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic and Democratic Republic of Congo) with training in social anthropology, rural development, agro-forestry or forestry, wishing to register for the May 2009 or January 2010 sessions are invited to apply before 22 February 2009.
Applications can be downloaded from the TFT website (www.tropicalforesttrust.com) and should be returned by email to cse.team@tropicalforesttrust.com or by post to:
