CEFDHAC Congo: New wind blows across Congo’s National CEFDHAC Forum on REDD+?
Congo’s National CEFDHAC Forum on REDD+ was the focus of reflection during a workshop that was held from May 7 to 9, 2014 in Brazzaville to revitalize the National Forum by providing it with organic laws consistent with CEFDHAC reform on the one hand, and secondly to develop the engagement strategy, communication plan and position paper of the Congo National CEFDHAC Forum on REDD +.
For three days, participants from the Congo National CEFDHAC Forum, the Rio Conventions, civil society platforms, the National REDD+ Coordination, the administration (Environment, Forest Economy, Sustainability, Academia, Research Institutions) and IUCN, were treated to presentations on the following: IUCN and implementation of the Convention on Climate Change in Central Africa; progress of the REDD+ process in the Congo; civil society’s contribution to the REDD+ process in the Congo; the scientific community’s contribution to the REDD+ process, the National Forum’s current operating status; an outline of the engagement strategy and communication plan. The presentations led participants into question and answer segments during which they discussed the future of the National Forum in great depth.
The discussions carried on into the break-out groups in which participants made comments on various aspects of the engagement strategy and communication plan.
The feedback session was next. It allowed participants to take resolutions on:
♦ Finalization of the statutes and internal rules & regulations of the Forum with the establishment of a team for that purpose;
♦ Participation of the Congo National CEFDHAC Forum in CBFP’s next meeting in Brazzaville with the establishment of a team for that purpose,
♦ Structuring the Forum by upgrading the Permanent Secretariat and appointing leaders and members of Forum sub-committees.
The workshop ended with participants’ recommendations for the finalization within a one-month timeframe of the following documents: the roadmap, the engagement strategy and communication plan of the Congo National CEFDHAC Forum on REDD +, the Statutes and Internal Rules & Regulations and the workshop report. The aim was to bring the CEFDHAC Congo National Forum to life.
It is on this note of recommendations that the workshop ended in hopes of soon seeing the dawn of a new era for the Congo National CEFDHAC Forum on REDD+.
