CBFP Partners Mobilise for the Burundian Chairmanship of the COMIFAC
Bujumbura, 15 January 2015 – Holding of a session of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) in support of Burundi in the sidelines of the Ordinary Conference of COMIFAC Forest and Environment Ministers, at Star Hotel, Bujumbura, Republic of Burundi.
The session was organised by Burundi, in collaboration with the CBFP US Facilitation and recorded strong mobilisation of international partners having activities in Burundi and in the sub-region for better coherence in their interventions and raise commitments in support to COMIFAC serving chairmanship.
The session was aimed at helping in the sustainable and consistent management of forest and environmental resources. Specific objectives included (1) informing partners on current activities and the priorities of Burundi in terms of environment and forests, (2) identifying and ensuring the consistency of ongoing and new activities and the priorities of partners in support to national and regional programmes; (3) drafting a road map for mobilising technical and financial supports to COMIFAC Chairmanship.
The session was organised in the form of presentations followed by plenary discussions. It revolved around three sessions: (1) ongoing initiatives in Burundi, (2) new/future initiatives for Burundi and (3) Support to the implementation of the Road Map of COMIFAC serving Chairmanship and engagement of partners.
The main recommendation of this session was the announcement by Burundi of the regular organisation of CBFP partners meetings for a better coordination of supports. Partners also engaged in favour of supports for the full success of COMIFAC serving chairmanship by Burundi.
