We, the Civil Society organizations of Central Africa gathered within the Conference on Dense and Humid Forest Ecosystems in Central Africa (CEFDHAC) who participated in the REDD + capacity building workshops from October 6 to 7, 2014 in Brazzaville, ahead of the CBFP meeting and the market of ideas held during session 6 of the CBFP’s deliberations, hereby release the statement below.
Whereas the issue of global warming and its impact on the economic and social development of the peoples in our respective countries constitutes a major challenge for all mankind, and a substantial threat to present and future generations.
Noting that thousands of people derive their livelihood from the Congo Basin forests which teem with over 80% biological diversity that deserves to be preserved for the benefit of present and future generations.
Reiterating our commitment to spare no effort in fighting against the ever growing poverty among populations in rural and urban areas, despite the efforts of our governments and partners in bilateral and multilateral development agencies.
