Dozens of heavily armed poachers on horseback attacked wildlife rangers of the Forest and Fauna Guard (GFF) stationed in the Binder-Lere Wildlife reserve. Seven (07) elephant carcasses were found throughout the reserve by GFF wildlife rangers tracking the poachers. The poachers came from Cameroon.

These days poachers are equipped with high caliber weapons ranging from automatic weapons and night vision monoculars to satellite communication tools.

For the record, in early February 2018, nineteen (19) elephant carcasses were found in the Binder-Léré Wildlife Reserve. The poachers had infiltrated the Wildlife Reserve from Cameroon as well.

The Cameroonian authorities’ help is needed to fight poaching and thus fend off poaching activity in the wildlife reserve. Also, a three-way agreement between Cameroon, Central African Republic and Chad is needed to fight the poachers.

Dozens of heavily armed poachers attacked officers of the Forest and Wildlife Guard (GFF) on Tuesday 6 August in the Binder-Léré Wildlife Reserve.

According to a statement released by the Minister of Water, Environment and Fisheries, the poachers came in from Cameroon. The statement added that poachers are nowadays equipped with high caliber weapons ranging from automatic weapons and night vision monoculars to satellite communication tools.
