africatime : Cameroon and EU enter agreement for better management of forest resources
APA-Douala (Cameroon) - The Cameroon Government and the European Union (EU) have signed a Voluntary Partnership Agreement (APV) to improve forest resources management through closer monitoring of logging activities, corroborating sources said on Wednesday .
The VPA focuses on Forest Law enforcement and the trade in timber and timber products (FLEGT).
The Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF), has underscored that the Agreement establishes a licensing scheme whose main feature is the legality verification system for timber and timber products (LVS).
It is envisaged that the LVS will comprise a centralized database named (SIGIF2) designed to verify the legality of timber in circulation in Cameroon.
