cop23: Africa Climate Week set to shape the Climate action strategies
UN Climate Change news, Feb 14. 2018 - State agencies and private businesses are invited to the first Africa Climate Week scheduled from 9 to 13 April 2018 in Nairobi, Kenya, to help shape and drive climate action.
The programme has been announced and so far, participants are allowed to take part in seven major events. Other events to be added will be either open to the public or on invitation.
"In order to meet the objectives of the Paris Agreement, we must step up global efforts and scale-up ambition for climate change action in all sectors, both public and private," said Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change. "The Africa Climate Week will be one of the key ways of driving this action and ambition. “
For over a decade, the Nairobi Framework Partnership has been rallying parties - in Asia, Latin America, the Caribbean and Africa - around the common goal of combating climate change, with particular focus on mechanisms and financing. The Nairobi Framework was initiated to increase participation in the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM). It grants awards to emissions-reducing projects. In 2017, it began expanding the Regional Carbon Forums to create climate weeks to strengthen and support the implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) in the framework of the Paris Agreement.
