Douala (Cameroon), 19 April 2011 – WIJMA Cameroun S.A. officially confirmed its desire to join the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP). WIJMA, a private sector partner, is committed to observe the principles of sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa by approving the cooperation framework of CBFP partners. CBFP Facilitation is pleased with WIJMA commitment towards the points contained in COMIFAC Convergence Plan and adopted by CBFP, namely resource knowledge, forest ecosystems development, biological diversity conservation, sustainable valorisation of forest resources, the development of alternative activities, poverty eradication, capacity building, actors’ involvement, information, research and development.
WIJMA is the first FSC certified lumbering company (Forest Stewardship Council) in the Congo Basin. Wijma Cameroun S.A. is the Cameroonian subsidiary of Wijma Group, a family business based in the Netherlands. The company has been operating since 1967, in logging and secondary and tertiary processing of wood.
The company currently manages four Forest Management Units (UFA), two of which are allocated to Wijma, while two others are managed in partnership with its subsidiary CAFECO S.A. and GAU SERVICES. « Timber from these FMUs is transformed in two processing units located at Nguti and Bidou. All these sites are FSC and OLB certified (FSCTM and OLB Forest Management and Traceability chain).
