On 24, 25 and 26 May 2016, a workshop was held to validate the final report of the study on the harmonization of land use texts and their alignment with the normative framework for territorial management in Cameroon
Organized by the Cameroonian Chapter of the Network of Parliamentarians for Sustainable Management of Forest Ecosystems of Central Africa (REPAR-Cameroon) with the support of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Territorial Management (MINEPAT) and the German Development Cooperation (GIZ), the meeting brought together close to 60 participants, including: lawmakers (Members of Parliament and Senators), representatives of public administrations and civil society, development partners, representatives of local councils, the team of consultants in charge of preparing the study and other experts.
The overall aim of the deliberations which were moderated by Mr David ABOUEM A TCHOYI, was to ensure that the content of the report was consistent with the objectives of the terms of reference of the study as well as the expected results.
More specifically, the aim was to:
- Ensure that all existing national legislative and regulatory texts on land use had been identified;
- Ensure that the legislative and regulatory texts collected were effectively analyzed and identify actual or potential sources of conflict at sub and intra sector level;
- Review the consistency and relevance of consultant's proposed amendments (to laws, articles or regulatory texts);
- Ensure consistency between the proposed amendments and various sector laws on the one hand, and with the legal framework for territorial management in Cameroon on the other hand;
- Devise a strategy for leveraging the findings of the study;
- Correct typographical errors.
In keeping with the agenda, the deliberations unfolded in the following three (03) main stages:
- The opening ceremony;
- The technical phase of the workshop;
- The closing ceremony.
