agenceecofin: Sapelli and mahogany production rank Cameroon and Congo among top wood exporters to Canada and the United States
(Agence Ecofin) - Mahogany exports to Canada increased more than threefold by the end of October 2017, according to the International Tropical Timber Organization (Oibt) Economic Outlook report.
Exports of this highly-valued timber species which is quite common in Africa rose due to increased shipments from many producing countries, especially from Cameroon and Brazil, the source said.
In the United States, imports of Sapelli, another well-known wood variety in Africa, were responsible for placing Cameroon and Congo among the biggest suppliers of tropical timber to the country during the period under review.
