USAID: On the conclusion of the CARPE III US Partners meeting


Following on the heels of the CARPE III  Strategic Planning Workshop the week of December 9-13,  USAID Bureau for Africa organised  a DC CARPE Partners meeting January 27-28, 2014.




♦ CARPE III plans shared among CAFEC and EMEMPS implementing partners

♦ FWS grants programs coordinated with CARPE III

♦ US facilitation of Congo Basin Forest Partnership coordinated with CARPE III

♦ Partnerships initiated and enhanced through formal and non-formal networking

♦ USAID informed by participant perspectives on CARPE implementation




Meeting focus is on the work of USAID/CARPE implementing partners but participation open also to others active in the region wishing to better understand the CARPE program. CARPE partners outside the CARPE core funding (e.g. FWS, CBFP, Slivacabon, INCEF, BCI, IUCN and ABCG (Day2) will focus on what they are doing and how their activities/programs relate to and complement CARPE’s programs in Central Africa. This will help CARPE in better coordination, leveraging resources and avoid any potential duplication, and share implementation experiences. Tuesday, January 28 afternoon will focus on discussion of technical issues such as wildlife trade, Concessions, GCC, gender, and communications.

The approved Cooperative Agreements for seven of the landscapes (minus Lac Télé -Lac Tumba) are available from a link in the lower right corner of each Landscape page e.g.  We also intend to post the end of Agreement reports for the 12 Landscape under CARPE II to the each respective Landscape cover page at the same page location.  
A save the date, as announced at the DC partners meeting.  The next component to CARPE III support by the USAID/E3/FAB-supported Measuring Impact project implemented by Foundations of Success is planned for March 17-19, 2014 in Kinshasa, DRC.  Agenda and logistics are under development.  The purpose would be to integrate the newly awarded EMAPS instruments into the CAFEC results chains as developed at the December 9-13, 2013 workshop and elaborated in subsequent CAFEC implementer meetings and also develop additional results chains as appropriate.  Participation prior Registration-

WWF: Rainforest deforestation more than doubled under cover of coronavirus -DW

Development and institutionalization of a PAFC certification system for the Congo basin: opening of the second public consultation on Sustainable Forest Management Certification Standard, 23 May 2020 - 22 June 2020

This second public consultation will be open for a period of 30 days from tomorrow Saturday the 23rd of May 2020 and will be closed on Monday the 22nd of June 2020. The public consultation is open to all stakeholders of forest management in the Congo Basin interested in participating to the PAFC Congo Basin certification standards development process.

Forest defenders on the COVID-19 frontline stand ready to assist the global EU response – Fern

These efforts go hand in hand with ensuring continued responsible management of natural resources and preventing unsustainably and illegally sourced forest commodities. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, forest-monitoring organisations Observatoire de la Gouvernance Forestière (OGF) and Réseau des observateurs indépendants des ressources naturelles (RENOI) are set to carry out COVID awareness-raising in at-risk forest areas, and will also assess COVID’s impact on forest management and governance commitments under the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI). Across the Congo Basin, fears that a proper lack of oversight may put forests and forest peoples in danger are looming despite emerging initiatives.
