We are delighted to bring you this annual report, which highlights the main achievements of the IUCN Cameroon Program in 2016. 2016 was marked by a number of major events including our successful participation in the Nature Congress in Hawaii that saw the presence and outstanding participation of the National Committee of members, and thereby facilitated strategic contacts with international partners while strengthening collaboration between these members and other IUCN units.
The successful participation in the IUCN World Congress yielded huge benefits at the programmatic, policy, institutional and technical levels. Events organized or supported by the Cameroon Program helped emphasize and highlight the importance of certain thematic areas in dealing with "ongoing clashes between immediate human needs and their long-term impacts on the planet’s ability to support life". These include the fight against wildlife crime, taking into account the impacts of extractive industries on wildlife, giving consideration to vulnerable groups (including the youth) in the fight against climate change, etc.
