May 13 to 14, 2015: The conference room of the Serena Hotel in Bali, Douala provided the setting for the preliminary meeting to adopt the memorandum of understanding on the consensual plan to integrate large mammal migration corridors in the TRIDOM landscape, into National Land Allocation Plans.
The opening ceremony was marked by an address by Mr. Assan GOMSE, the Programming Unit Head representing the national COMIFAC Coordination of Cameroon. In his remarks, Mr. Assan GOMSE thanked various participants who had set aside other commitments to come and contribute actively to the meeting which he described as a technical meeting aimed at developing this important tool for the survival of large mammals in the TRIDOM area.
Recognizing that each participant's presence demonstrates their strong interest in the sustainable use of our country's natural resources, Mr. Assan GOMSE thanked all the participants who had come from various organizations and urged them to contribute their knowledge and experience in making far-reaching improvements to the draft memorandum submitted for their consideration.
At the close of deliberations, the participants recommended that:
- A protocol submission note be prepared by the project team to ensure clear understanding of the link between the memorandum and the cooperation agreement instituting the TRIDOM area.
- A map be appended to said memorandum showing the corridors identified in the TRIDOM area.
- The improved version of the memorandum be sent to various States-Parties as quickly as possible to prepare for the next steps (adoption at subregional level and approval by the States-Parties).
