“Transparency International” officially joins the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP)
Berlin (Germany), May 13th 2014 – Transparency International, through its Africa Department, has officially joined the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) andagrees to abide by the cooperation framework of CBFP members to advance sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa. The vision of Transparency International (TI) is “a world in which government, politics, business, civil society and the daily lives of people are free of corruption.”
In January 2014 the Africa Department of TI launched a 3 year project funded by the European Union called “REDD+ Governance and Finance Integrity for Africa”. The overall objective is to improve anti-corruption policies and practices in REDD+ finance and governance in Africa, through the development of effective strategies and policies, which contribute to prevent corruption in REDD+ Africa. A large part of these activities will be focused in Congo Basin countries.
Cognizant of the importance of joining regional efforts, TI considers that its partnership with the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP) key to achieve its goals and to support related activities undertaken by other stakeholder members of the CBFP.
Transparency International (TI) is a global civil society organization leading the fight against corruption. Through more than 100 chapters worldwide and an international secretariat in Berlin, Germany, TI raises awareness of the damaging effects of corruption and works with partners in government, business and civil society to develop and implement effective measures to tackle it.
Transparency International has 17 chapters in Sub-Saharan Africa and in particular three Chapters among the COMIFAC countries: in Burundi (ABUCO-TI Burundi), in Cameroon (TI-Cameroun) and in Rwanda (TI-Rwanda). Transparency International is currently expanding its presence in the area and working with different partners in countries where no physical presence is established yet.
