The Forest Trust (TFT): Technical assistance to African logging companies in favour of the social aspects of forest certification

This training on the social aspect shall last 14 days and shall take place in Yaoundé, in the premises of TFT, from Monday 20 June to Sunday 3 July 2011.

The Forest Trust (TFT) announces that the Centre for Social Excellence (TFT initiative) received funding from AFD/FFEM via ATIBT for the implementation of the “Training” arm of ECOFORAP project. This is a technical assistance to African logging companies in favour of the social aspects of forest certification.

This project enables logging companies to receive training towards certification at preferential rates, as all the costs of training are almost provided by the donor. Only transport fares, accommodation and feeding fees are borne by participants. This training on the social aspect shall last 14 days and shall take place in Yaoundé, in the premises of TFT, from Monday 20 June to Sunday 3 July 2011.

These efforts go hand in hand with ensuring continued responsible management of natural resources and preventing unsustainably and illegally sourced forest commodities. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, forest-monitoring organisations Observatoire de la Gouvernance Forestière (OGF) and Réseau des observateurs indépendants des ressources naturelles (RENOI) are set to carry out COVID awareness-raising in at-risk forest areas, and will also assess COVID’s impact on forest management and governance commitments under the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI). Across the Congo Basin, fears that a proper lack of oversight may put forests and forest peoples in danger are looming despite emerging initiatives.
