The Interim Strategic Plan (2019-2022) of the Organization for Wildlife Conservation in Africa (OCFSA), which supplements the Illustrated Briefing Note we recently developed in consultation with stakeholders and key stakeholders in wildlife conservation, capture what the intergovernmental agency must do in the next four years.

As part of its implementation, a work plan will be developed each year, incorporating the different strategic thrusts and outlining objectives and expected outcomes for each of them. The strategic plan will be monitored and assessed after the first two years in order to redirect or recalibrate interventions where necessary to achieve the expected results. 

The estimated cost of implementation stands at 5,035,000,000 (five billion thirty-five million) CFA francs. This amount takes into account the decision to grant observer status to all the countries of the ECCAS / COMIFAC region, as well as partnerships recommended by the Conference of Ministers, to be established with several targeted intergovernmental organizations, namely the ECCAS and COMIFAC (short-term) and the African Union (long-term) which will allow  OCFSA beyond the current scope of its member countries. 

It also recognizes the need to capitalize all studies and conservation initiatives developed by partners involved in wildlife conservation in Central Africa in particular and beyond. It also factors in the crucial need for local communities to be involved in wildlife conservation areas as part of a coalition of actors using inter-state military forces that can eradicate poaching and wildlife crime in cross-border areas and control any zoonotic epidemics that pose a threat to wildlife health. Finally, it equally takes into account the need to assess carbon stocks and integrate gender and marginalized groups into wildlife management.
