Coming soon, the 3rd Summit of Heads of State of Central African countries on sustainable conservation and management of forest and environmental resources

Kindly consult the Memorandum establishing within COMIFAC’s Executive Secretariat, a technical committee in charge of drafting the preparatory documents for the 3rd Summit of Heads of State.

On 3 September 2013, COMIFAC’s Executive Secretariat signed a memorandum establishing within COMIFAC’s Executive Secretariat a technical committee in charge of drafting the preparatory documents of the 3^rd Summit of Heads of State of Central African countries on the conference on sustainable conservation and management of forest and environmental resources.

The Committee which is composed of the following members:

♦ The Executive Secretary of COMIFAC,

♦ The Deputy Executive Secretary of COMIFAC,

♦The Coordinator of the GIZ support to COMIFAC project,

♦The Administrative and Financial Director of COMIFAC,

♦the monitoring-evaluation specialist at COMIFAC’s Executive Secretariat,

♦ Biodiversity and desertification expert,

♦ CBFP’s Facilitator Delegate,

♦ the Communication expert at the COMIFAC Secretariat,

♦ representatives of partner institutions and NGOs including : CEFDHAC, CARPE, WWF, IUCN, GIZ,

will need external expertise to achieve its assigned objectives and will equally keep the COMIFAC President abreast of the progress of preparatory activities.

For further information, please consult the Memorandum establishing within COMIFAC’s Executive Secretariat, a technical committee in charge of drafting the preparatory documents for the 3rd Summit of Heads of State.

Development and institutionalization of a PAFC certification system for the Congo basin: opening of the second public consultation on Sustainable Forest Management Certification Standard, 23 May 2020 - 22 June 2020

Forest defenders on the COVID-19 frontline stand ready to assist the global EU response – Fern

These efforts go hand in hand with ensuring continued responsible management of natural resources and preventing unsustainably and illegally sourced forest commodities. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, forest-monitoring organisations Observatoire de la Gouvernance Forestière (OGF) and Réseau des observateurs indépendants des ressources naturelles (RENOI) are set to carry out COVID awareness-raising in at-risk forest areas, and will also assess COVID’s impact on forest management and governance commitments under the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI). Across the Congo Basin, fears that a proper lack of oversight may put forests and forest peoples in danger are looming despite emerging initiatives.
