Two logging companies have been suspended after being reported for conducting illegal logging activities by the External Independent Normalized Observation System (SNOIE).
The operations of the logging companies, Société Bois Africains du Cameroun (SBAC) and the Société Forestière de Bouraka (SFB), have been suspended since 7 November 2019 by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF). The two companies respectively own the forest concessions UFA 10050 located in the surroundings of the Massa, Nkoulkoua and Londjap villages in the Somalomo sub-division, in Upper-Nyong Division in the East region of Cameroon and UFA 08006 located in Yoko in the Mbam and Kim division in the Center region.
Pursuant to Decision 1, no. 1367/D/MINFOF/CAB 07 November 2019 to suspend logging operations in a State-owned forest, the SBAC was convicted of logging beyond the boundaries of the forest concession and failing to comply with technical logging standards while Decision no. 1289/D/MINFOF/CAB of 31 October 2019 to suspend operations in a State-owned forest, convicted SFB of conducting logging operations in a State-owned forest, exceeding the boundaries of the delineated area (AAC, 3-2).
By suspending the two companies, the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF) has paved the way for investigations into allegations of illegal activity found in the complaints lodged against the two companies by the organizations Forêts et Développement Rural (FODER) and Ecosystème et Développement (ECODEV). The complaints drafted in accordance with the prescribed procedures of the External Independent Normalized Observation System (SNOIE) were sent to MINFOF in July 2019 (SBAC3 case) and August 2019 (SFB case).
