Download the Paris Declaration on "The Fight against elephant poaching and trafficking in ivory and other protected species”.
The Paris Summit produced a statement summarized in 15 points. The Declaration was recognized as an international legal instrument in the fight against African wildlife criminals. It specifies in point 3 that: " in the face of heavily armed groups, that increasingly operate across borders, fueling trafficking of all kinds as well as political instability, our States are up against a major challenge to their security and sovereignty.
An environmental tragedy, with the prospect of possible extinction in the short term of several iconic large animal species of our world, poaching and illegal trafficking jeopardize opportunities for economic and social development, and environmental preservation of ever wider areas within our territories".
