Proposed action plan to enhance transparency in VPA-FLEGT and REDD+ processes
In a bid to help increase transparency in VPA FLEGT and REDD+ processes, a proposed three-year action plan (2018-2020) was submitted for consideration to forestry and environmental sector stakeholders who were meeting in a workshop to assess transparency in both processes (VPA and REDD+). The workshop was organized by the Forests and Rural Development association (FODER) last July as part of the Voice of Citizens for Change Project; Forest Observation in the Congo basin (CV4C) implemented by a consortium of Congo Basin organizations, led by the CIDT with the financial support of the European Union and project partners.
The action plan comes after many have raised the issue of transparency in the VPA-FLEGT and REDD+ process in Cameroon. Thus, to ensure transparency in the VPA FLEGT process, the assessment focused on the implementation of Annex VII of the Agreement through online publication of information. As for the REDD+ process, the assessment reviewed transparency during the preparatory phase (R-PP) and integration of transparency in version 3 of the national REDD+ strategy.
