The CBFP family welcomes a new member: Welcome to the Network of Communicators for the Environment and Information in Central Africa (RECEIAC)!

Brazzaville, 05 October 2016: The Network of Communicators for the Environment and Information in Africa (RECEIAC) has joined the Congo Basin Forest Partnership.

Established in May 2013, on the sidelines of the Conference of of Central African Ministers on the fight against poaching, the Network of Communicators for the Environment and information in Central Africa (RECEIAC) is a specialized platform, whose members at sub-regional and national level include key players in Central Africa’s information and communications sector, notably:

  • The Heads of communications units of ministries in charge of Forests and the Environment, as well as other ministries concerned with the environment (water, energy, industry, Health, Agriculture, Rural Development, Mines, etc.);
  • The Heads of Communications of partner institutions /international and national NGOs active in the forest and the environmental sector;
  • The Heads of environmental desks of public and private media;
  • Leaders of networks specialized in environmental information and communication.

RECEIAC aims to strengthen environmental communication and information and hence contribute to the preservation and sustainable management of natural resources in Central Africa. RECEIAC further aims to promote cooperation in developing environmental communication and information in Central Africa.

Since its inception, RECEIAC has supported the CBFP, COMIFAC and ECCAS on a regular basis in implementing their communication strategies and plans. This is done by producing and disseminating information on the activities and achievements of the CBFP, COMIFAC and ECCAS via its network. RECEIAC has equally assisted COMIFAC in particular, in developing and implementing its new communication strategy (2015-2018), as well as its Revised Convergence Plan popularization program.

Furthermore, the Strategy Documents for Promoting the Green Economy in

Central Africa adopted by the May 2015 Heads of States Summit in N'Djamena

(Decisions No. 25, 27, 28 and 35/ECCAS/CGC/XVI/15 of 25 May 2015) recognize the role RECIAC plays and its importance in implementing this subregional strategy, in the area of communication and information and environmental awareness.

RECEIAC works on a regular basis to help raise the international profile of the Congo Basin, its institutions and initiatives at international and subregional conferences, including: The World Parks Congress, World Forestry Congress, COP21 on the climate in Paris, IUCN World Conservation Congress, CBFP Meetings of Partners, etc.

With support from the United States CBFP Facilitation and  PACEBCo, RECEIAC has strengthened its statutory infrastructure by holding two General Assemblies on the margins of the CBFP meetings  and organizing thematic training sessions for communications and information practitioners in Central Africa. The training sessions are designed to build their capacity to produce and disseminate flawless expert environmental information. For RECEIAC therefore, the CBFP Meetings of Partners provide a great opportunity for its members to get educated the different topics explored in various streams.

On the operational front on the ground, RECEIAC’s Regional Office coordinates the dissemination of information on the forestry and environmental sector across its network, which is relayed by the different media outlets, including community and rural radios, in local languages. The Office also provides capacity building on relevant themes for its members and for community radio stations in particular. National focal points lead the national network and disseminate information at national level.

RECEIAC has recently subscribed to the principles of the cooperation framework of CBFP member partners, and undertakes to comply with and implement them in its efforts to contribute to the implementation of the Revised Convergence Plan (2015-2025), in particular cross-cutting axis 3: Communication, awareness, information and education.

With the firm belief that the Partnership can now rely on RECEIAC’s dynamism to ensure broad dissemination of information across the Congo Basin, the European Facilitation of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership welcomes the Network of Communicators for the environment and information in Central Africa (RECEIAC)!
