PREFOCAD is a decidedly participatory initiative
The Forest Ecosystems Conservation managed by Village Communities and Indigenous Peoples Project in the municipality of Dimako abbreviated in French as PREFOCAD, is an initiative of the Sustainable Alternatives for Development (ADD) organization. It is part of the call for proposals launched by the GEF / SGP in October 2012. Having gained the approval of the National Steering Committee, the project began taking shape with the signing on 10 July 2013 of the Memorandum of Understanding between the GEF / SGP and ADD, to provide a grant of 14,304,500 CFA francs for its implementation from July 2013 to 31 December 2014.
Community forests are development tools that must be leveraged in improving the living conditions of local communities. However, studies carried out at Dimako underscore the fragile nature of the control and management structures put in place to ensure the smooth conduct of logging activities in community forests.
