News release -Tropical Forest Update goes mobile

The Tropical Forest Update, ITTO’s well-known and highly respected newsletter dedicated to the conservation and sustainable use of tropical forest resources, has gone mobile. ITTO has released a free app that makes the newsletter instantly available on smartphones and tablets. The app can be downloaded at Apple’s App Store and Google Play.

The app enables users to:

Receive alerts when new editions of the TFU are published
Download issues and save them to their smartphone libraries
Create bookmarks and share them via other applications
View thumbnails in full screen
View the TFU in one- or two-page modes
Access previous editions (to 2014) and French and Spanish versions
Navigate to ITTO’s website.

The TFU, which has been in circulation since 1999, is published quarterly in English, French and Spanish and distributed free of charge to more than 15 000 readers worldwide. Its contains articles on various aspects of sustainable forest management and its implementation in the tropics, provides timely insights into timber market trends, and announces recent publications, tropical forest news and forthcoming meetings relevant to the tropical forest sector.

Development and institutionalization of a PAFC certification system for the Congo basin: opening of the second public consultation on Sustainable Forest Management Certification Standard, 23 May 2020 - 22 June 2020

Forest defenders on the COVID-19 frontline stand ready to assist the global EU response – Fern

These efforts go hand in hand with ensuring continued responsible management of natural resources and preventing unsustainably and illegally sourced forest commodities. In the Democratic Republic of Congo, forest-monitoring organisations Observatoire de la Gouvernance Forestière (OGF) and Réseau des observateurs indépendants des ressources naturelles (RENOI) are set to carry out COVID awareness-raising in at-risk forest areas, and will also assess COVID’s impact on forest management and governance commitments under the Central African Forest Initiative (CAFI). Across the Congo Basin, fears that a proper lack of oversight may put forests and forest peoples in danger are looming despite emerging initiatives.
