The CBFP family welcomes a new member: Welcome to Nature+ ASBL
On 24 March 2017, Nature+ASBL officially joined the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP). Nature+ ASBL has submitted the required documents and adheres to the principles of the CBFP members’ cooperation framework to promote the conservation and sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa. It undertakes to respect and apply the principles in its interventions, and to engage actively on various fronts in the CBFP’s operations.
A Belgian non-profit association, Nature+ (ASBL) has been active for more than 15 years in the Congo Basin, where it plays a major role in the sustainable management of natural resources. Nature+ is also present in the field of social forestry, working to promote participatory forest management. Its activities further extend to the agroforestry sector where it strives to protect fuelwood resources and strengthen food security. The organization equally provides technical assistance to forest loggers during the forest certification process. Across upstream and downstream stages of logging activities, Nature+ conducts applied research and engages in forestry operations with a view to developing tools and strategies for forest management or conservation of forest resources. Through its wildlife conservation and management efforts, Nature+ helps enrich knowledge on the ecology of the species concerned in order to better manage their natural environment. Moreover, Nature+ is actively involved in the REDD+ process in Central Africa by measuring and monitoring biomass and carbon stocks. Lastly, Nature+ enjoys recognition as a provider of training in various areas related to the Congo Basin forests.
Powered by a team of forestry experts, Nature+ provides assistance to managers of natural tropical ecosystems by offering targeted and scientifically robust interventions. To achieve its objectives, Nature+ has forged several partnerships with public and private sector organizations in the Congo Basin involved in sustainable management of natural resources with backing from international donors.
Nature+ has been contributing to the implementation of the Convergence Plan of the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC) for several years through various projects and has built its reputation on achievements across the Central African countries, notably: Cameroon, Gabon, the Congo and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Nature+ ASBL is now one of the 97 member countries and organizations of the CBFP.
The European Facilitation of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership is very pleased to welcome Nature+ ASBL as a new CBFP member.
