FFBC-FAO-COMIFAC: Towards the materialisation of the REDD+ process in Chad
Following three days of intense work, two main highlights marked the end of the workshop, namely: (1) the recommendations made to the Chadian government and to FAO, to ensure greater efficiency in the operationalization of the REDD+ project, (2) and the identification of key elements for developing the roadmap which is crucial for the implementation of the REDD+ preparatory paper drafting process.
An important workshop on awareness, training and planning of the MRV project jointly organized by the Ministry of Environment and Fisheries and the FAOtook place from 24 to 26 April 2013 in Ndjamena, Chad.
The meeting witnessed the participation of close to 50 people representing institutions (the National Assembly of the Republic of Chad, Regional Delegates, the European Union, the French Embassy, sectoral ministries, international organizations, civil society and indigenous peoples, public and private media). It had the following objectives:
- To disseminate information on the project to different stakeholders;
- To provide information on the R-PP drafting process and identify primary elements that would go into the drafting this document (identifying capacity building needs for developing the REDD process and particularly the SNSF);
- To discuss institutional arrangements for managing the REDD + process and the SNSF ;
- To develop the roadmap of the process.
The workshop adopted a participatory working method which entailed presentations/discussions and group work.
Following three days of intense work, two main highlights marked the end of the workshop, namely:
- the recommendations made to the Chadian government and to FAO, to ensure greater efficiency in the operationalization of the REDD + project,
- the roadmap for the REDD+ preparatory paper drafting process and the need to update the decree on institutional management of the REDD+ process.
On this note, the participants parted in hopes of seeing significant progress in the REDD+ process in Chad in the days ahead.
