Japan’s interventions in Congo Basin Forests
The Government of Japan and the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), have since 2009, been developing and implementing a series of projects and programs aimed at forest preservation, sustainable forest management, biodiversity conservation, and organizing training in Japan related to the environment and forests, and providing technical support to states and sub regional institutions.
These actions initiated by Japan help to strengthen cooperation between the Japanese government and beneficiary countries, namely: Cameroon, Gabon, the Republic of Congo, the Democratic Republic of Congo, CAR and COMIFAC.
The cost of these projects classified as non-refundable financial assistance from the Japanese government is valued at approximately U.S. $ 30.76 million excluding the cost of technical cooperation in the states.
