Dear Reader,
Welcome to this latest edition of Infosylva.
We would like to draw your attention to a new knowledge-sharing platform launched by FAO and partners earlier this month. This open-access platform aims to guide policy makers and practitioners through the entire planning, management, and implementation stages of a forest and landscape restoration project. (In English)
New FAO-lead research published in Science on 12 May 2017 reports that drylands hold a much larger portion of forests than previously confirmed. The study states that high-resolution satellite imagery shows that the portion of forests in drylands has been under-estimated. The use of this new technology allows us to see as much as 9 percent more unreported forest cover. (In English, Spanish and French)
In welcoming a new report that WFP recently published on the momentous issue of food security, conflict and international migration, FAO emphasized that making migration a choice rather than a necessity means that alternative and resilient livelihood opportunities must be created in the countries where migration originates. This is relevant for both internal and international migration. (In English, Spanish and French)
A new Forest and Farm Facility (FFF) brochure illustrates a new phase of its worldwide development programme. This phase aims to strengthen the role of forest and farm producers and their organizations by placing them at the centre of projects and strategies for implementing the National Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in order to create climate-resilient landscapes and improved livelihoods.
