World Conservation Congress, a green Congress
IUCN and the green team of the national host committee are doing their best to avoid or mitigate the adverse environmental effects produced by the organization of the World Conservation Congress. IUCN intends to not only mitigate carbon emissions from air travel up to Hawai'i, but also all carbon missions produced by the Congress (sending of goods, in situ work in Honolulu, accommodation in the hotels and emissions due to the logistics at the venue that is the Hawai'i Congress Center).
Everything is being done to minimize waste, energy and resource consumption, CO2 emissions and adverse impacts on biodiversity. The objective being to have a plastic free, waste free and almost paper free congress.
