Outcomes and highlights from the IUCN World Conservation Congress 2016

As we move into 2017, the world needs nature more than ever. And while the challenges facing our planet are great, momentum is building toward a sustainable future. Last year, the world took giant steps in moving the Sustainable Development Goals, Paris Agreement and 2015’s other historic agreements into action, and the IUCN Congress was a big part of it.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to the Congress’ overwhelming success. Now it’s time to take what we’ve learned, develop these new relationships, and follow through on the successes and decisions from Hawaiʻi. In short, it’s time to get to work!

An unprecedented success

Setting the global conservation agenda

IUCN Members approved 121 motions addressing urgent conservation issues, the Paris Agreement and the SDGs. IUCN created a new membership category for Indigenous peoples organisations, elected a new Council and approved the 2017-2020 IUCN Programme. Read the Members’ Assembly proceedings.
