The CBFP welcomes the Tropical Ecology Research Institute (IRET)!

Libreville, 10 October 2016: The European Facilitation of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership is very pleased to welcome IRET as a new member of the CBFP.

IRET is a public research organization based in Gabon, which focuses entirely on the study of biodiversity in Gabonese forests, to enhance understanding and predict the long term evolution of Congo Basin forests, with special emphasis on the study of the impact of environmental changes on its biodiversity.

Thus, the research conducted at IRET can provide CBFP members with relevant scientific insights to inform decision-making on forest management in the Congo Basin.

IRET is now one of 88 CBFP member countries and organizations, working together in Central Africa to promote sustainable management of resources, improve people’s living conditions and protect the unique biodiversity of the sub-region’s humid forests.

By applying for CBFP membership, IRET has demonstrated its commitment to the Congo Basin to all the existing members of the Partnership. The Facilitation is confident that the Partnership can count on the active participation and commitment of IRET to reducing the effects of environmental change on biodiversity in the Congo Basin.
