The IPBES (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) has launched an external review of the global assessment of biodiversity which will run until 29 June 2018 (documents available since 14 May). The IPBES aims for the widest possible participation of reviewers in this process: “Interested and qualified experts, including scientists, policy makers, practitioners and other knowledge holders",
The assessment will provide the first snapshot of the state of the world’s biodiversity in over a decade since the release of the Millennium Ecosystem Assessment. It will present policy makers with the state of knowledge on the planet’s biodiversity, ecosystems and their contributions to people, as well as available options to protect and use these natural assets more sustainably. Furthermore, the global assessment will provide key data to assess progress towards the Aichi Biodiversity Targets and Sustainable Development Objectives.
