Yaounde, 17 February 2017: The Network of Communicators for the Environment and Information in Central Africa (RECEIAC) was recently legalized in Cameroon!

The legalization efforts recently embarked upon by the network were crowned with success on 17 February 2017, when the RECEIAC Secretary General, Guefack Gérôme, was handed the receipt of registration of the association, in accordance with article 7 of Law No. 90/053 of 19 December 1990 on freedom of association in Cameroon.

The document as signed by the Senior Divisional Officer of the Mfoundi Division and ratified by Civil Administrator, Jean Claude Tsila, set outs the RECEIAC’s objectives, which include the following:

• To foster the establishment and operation of a sub-regional platform for environmental communication and information

• To support the implementation of environmental communication measures, laid down in the instruments of sub-regional organizations (ECCAS general policy relating to the environment and natural resources management, the COMIFAC convergence plan, the CBFP roadmap, sectoral plans, etc.)

• To strengthen technical cooperation between network members through information, data and experience sharing.

• To promote training, information, education, awareness raising, dissemination and mass communication on environmental issues

Established in May 2013, on the sidelines of the Central African Ministers Anti-poaching Conference and presided over by Raoul Siemeni, RECEIAC has recently acquired a legal status.

This legal status should enhance the RECEIAC’s ability to disseminate environmental information on priority thematic areas in Central Africa and raise the network’s visibility within the Congo Basin’s communication sphere.
