Welcome to our new partner Hasselt University!!!
Brussels, 06 November 2018, Hasselt University has officially joined the members of the Congo Basin Forests Partnership (CBFP). As part of the accession process, Hasselt University submitted the required documents and agreed to abide by the CBFP members’ cooperation framework in promoting sustainable management of forest ecosystems in Central Africa.
Hasselt University (UHasselt) is a young, innovative and civic university with a pronounced international orientation. The triple mission of UHasselt includes: 1) excellence in teaching, 2) top research in spearhead domains and 3) an active involvement in innovation and entrepreneurship. This is reflected by its ranking among the top 5% of higher education institutions worldwide in U-Multirank in 2018. The overall objective of the university is to combine academic excellence with economic and social relevance.
Hasselt University has seven faculties and one school that control teaching and research. Each faculty and school has established an education management team (OMT) and an Examination Board for each programme.
Hasselt University invests in international researchers and internationalization of its researchers, in order to strengthen the international networks and research quality of the university. The university welcomes students and researchers from all continents and at the same time stimulates its own students, researchers and staff to spend some time abroad.
Hasselt University regards it as its social responsibility to share its expertise in education and research with partner institutions in the South and actively participates in the search for sustainable answers to societal challenges in developing countries together with local partner institutions.
The university is actively engaged in several research and educational activities in Central and Eastern Africa, including projects that directly support the preservation of the Congo Basin Forest. Hasselt University continues to engage with partners in this region, focusing on regional institutions and on sustainable local capacity building.
