IPCC Special Report reflects urgency of better land management to combat climate change
A new special report released Thursday by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has concluded that better land management is necessary to tackle climate change. “In response to such challenges, the GEF has secured $430 million for its FOLUR Impact Program, which aims to help transform the food and land use system,” said Naoko Ishii, CEO and Chairperson of the GEF. From Ridge to Reef: learning from holistic best practice
More than 150 people from 17 countries gathered in Fiji for the GEF's Pacific Expanded Constituency Workshop (ECW) to meet with regional counterparts, review GEF strategies, and discuss policies, procedures, and experiences from GEF projects. The ECW also included a visit to the GEF-funded Ridge to Reef (R2R) project site where participants had an opportunity to engage with communities who have benefited from the program implemented in partnership with the UNDP. Three steps to meeting the climate and nature emergency
There are growing calls to declare climate and nature emergencies. The latest scientific assessments on the state of Earth’s climate and biodiversity provide robust evidence. In a recent blog from the GEF-Telegraph partnership, Johan Rockström, director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, highlights three major steps to move from incremental to exponential action on climate change without sacrificing economic development.
