mediaterre- The Francophonie at COP- COP25
For every Conference of Parties that has conducted climate negotiations since COP21 in 2015, the Francophonie has booked and set up a Pavilion for French-speaking actors. The Pavilion provided for the two-week COP event is used to host various events and draws close to 2000 participants to each edition. It has always been a successful event which is highly appreciated by the member States and Governments of the Francophonie as well as civil society and private sector actors.
The pavilion offers the following benefits:
- A French-speaking and multi-stakeholder space in which to present local and national initiatives relating to the implementation of national commitments (mitigation, adaptation, resilience...)
- A space for meetings between national actors and financing mechanisms as well as technical and financial partners.
- A space for experience-sharing between countries at different stages in the implementation of their climate change mitigation and adaptation commitments.
The activities conducted at the OIF Pavilion reflect the ongoing and multifaceted commitment of the Francophonie, alongside its member States and governments, regions, territories, private sector, youths and women to jointly addressing climate change and charting new paths towards low-carbon development. The events organized there by partners and member countries have been highly successful, especially the Days celebrating member States and governments as well as all other related side events organized by partners.
The 25th session of the Conference of Parties to the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (CoP25) which will take place from 2 to 13 December 2019 in Santiago, Chile will be an important event in the implementation of the Paris Agreement. This is why the OIF, in keeping with its commitment to support its member States and governments, will enlist the help of its partners to once more mobilize the States and governments and all the partners and experts of the Francophonie, notably within the framework of events which will be held in the Francophonie Pavilion.
To this end, the IFDD calls on the member States and Governments as well as partners (civil society, regional and international organizations), side-events) to propose side events and Days of the member States and governments, which they will host in the OIF pavilion during COP25 from 2 to 13 December 2019.
The idea is to provide French-speaking actors (public sector, civil society, private sector, members of academia, elected officials, parliamentarians, youths, women...) in the fight against global warming, with a forum for reflection, discussion and knowledge and experience sharing on best practices to be developed as part of implementation of the Paris Agreement.
