The training workshop on the preparation of projects on forests in Central Africa and the initiation of a Working Group on financing in the forest-environment sector in Central Africa held from 18 to 21 November 2019 in Douala, Cameroon. This workshop was co-organized by the Executive Secretariat of the Central African Forest Commission (COMIFAC), the Secretariat of the United Nations Forum on Forests (UNFF), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP).
The main objective of the workshop was to provide capacity building for national experts to develop and design a bankable project or programme on sustainable forest management addressed to multilateral financial institutions, on the one hand, and to initiate a sub-regional Working Group bringing together all the Designated National Authorities/Focal Points of the various existing financing mechanisms and national Forest Funds/Environmental Funds, on the other hand.
About fifty participants took part in this workshop including: the Designated National Authorities/National Focal Points of the Green Climate Fund, the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Climate Change Adaptation Fund, UNFF, CAFI, National Forest Funds and Environmental Protection Fund, from the following countries: Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo and Chad, representatives COMIFAC Executive Secretariat, UNFF, UNDP, CBFP Facilitation, CEFDHAC, WWF, GIZ, Civil Society Organizations and resource persons.
