Le Figaro: Kenya destroys largest ever stockpile of ivory
A total 105 tonnes of ivory were burned on Saturday as the President of Kenya looked on. The public cremation service hosted by the Nairobi National Park, aims to raise public awareness and promote the fight against poaching.
The symbolic gesture was conducted in front of cameras from around the world. The Kenyan President on Saturday destroyed 105 tonnes of ivory in the Nairobi National Park, the largest ever quantity of "white gold" cremated in one go. What for? To carry out a strong symbolic act for the fight against the poaching of elephants, which are being decimated for their premium-priced tusks.
