The Royal Museum of Central Africa (Tervurin) provided the setting for the first day of the 18th Meeting of Parties of the Congo Basin Forest Partnership (CBFP). The proceedings which began this morning, are expected to culminate in new commitments to preserve the forests which are shared by the ten Central African countries and considered a heritage of humanity.

The choice of the great museum was not random.  To the organizers, the Tervurin Museum has maintained a close relationship with the Congo Basin forests for many years.

“The museum’s activities fall squarely in line with the objectives of the Partnership which is organizing this meeting. For 120 years our museum has been active in the field of wood biology and we are actively involved in research on Congo Basin Forests across a host of fields” said the Director General of the Tervurin Museum, Guido Gryseels.

The Tervurin Museum develops and disseminates a range of instruments to foster sustainable management of forest resources in the Congo Basin.

The agenda for this first day features many activities notably the scientific days and the college meetings.
