The Congo Basin "markets" itself in China
On September 15 and 16, 2014, Qingdao, China provided the setting for the International Timber and Wood Products Trade Conference. Marking its fourth installment, the conference organized by the China Timber and Wood Products Distribution Association aimed to enhance understanding and trade ties between Chinese timber industry players and the international community.
The host association
The China Timber and Wood Products Distribution Association has been in existence since 1985 and counts close to 3,000 members divided into three main groups: individuals, businesses and institutions. The association has a special focus on Africa in general and the Congo Basin in particular. Hence it received financial assistance from GIZ to take part in the ITTTA meeting held in Brazzaville in October 2013 and the workshop on legality and sustainability processes in Libreville in March 2014.
