4,5 December 2017: The Validation workshop of COMIFAC sub-regional strategy for gender mainstreaming into sustainable management of natural resources in the Congo Basin took place in Libreville, Gabon, from 4 to 5 December 2017.
The overall aim of the workshop was to review and validate the sub-regional strategy for gender mainstreaming into sustainable management of natural resources in the Congo Basin. It was hosted by the COMIFAC Executive Secretariat with the technical and financial support of the German cooperation through the GIZ.
The meeting drew close to thirty-five participants including 21 women and 14 men, from eight (8) of the ten COMIFAC countries, namely: Burundi, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, Central African Republic, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Chad, representing agencies in charge of forests and the environment, women’s empowerment and gender, COMIFAC, GIZ, civil society organizations (REJEFAC, REFADD, REPAR), trade unions of forestry industry businesses (GFBC, UFIGA), resource persons.
The opening ceremony was chaired by the Secretary General who was representing the Minister of State, Minister of Forestry, the Sea and the Environment of the Republic of Gabon. Three speeches were delivered at the ceremony by: Mr. Paul Scholte, Director of the GIZ Regional Program for sustainable forest management in the Congo Basin, Mr Raymond NDOMBA NGOYE, Executive Secretary of COMIFAC and the opening speech by Mr Athanasius NTHANGA OYOUGOU, Secretary General of the Ministry of Forestry, the Sea and the Environment of Gabon.
